InspirationYoung Aviators and Scouting ReportsAerial treasurehunting at Panshangar! Young Aviators with MKAS at Sywell Scout Aviation camp with Gloster Strut. Girls With WingsAmerican site aiming to boost interest in aviation among girls and young women. The website included activities, inspirational case studies, a club bulletin board and lots of more, including a large page of links to educational resources. Out of the mouths...Teaching a "catch-up" numeracy class the other day I was doing a lesson with maps, and always chuck in as many as I can, including an airchart. Always a good discussion starter as they try and figure out the different purposes of the maps and how that impact on the scale, keys etc. Throwing the airchart in there always causes a lot of interest so when we started planning a trip with one of the maps (they could choose any one to use) they instantly wanted that one. About halfway through the session one of the learners commented in tones of slight dismay "You need maths to fly...?", then straight away broke into a grin and announced very firmly "I'm going to learn maths!" Is it a bird...?As a tie-in from the new book Airman by Eion Colfer, the publishers are runing a "Flying machine competition" for readers aged 8-16. They've got the organisation down pat with a sugested route and guidelines for the participating pilots to follow and on the ground activites for the children while they await their turn to fly.
