Classroom and Curriculum

National Curriculum Info
The Powers That Be when it comes to curriculum standards.  If you're looking to map your resources against the curriculum this is your first stop.

Business in Schools
Some useful resources and case studies on workplace visits by schools.  Could be adapted to an aviation theme or used by aviation employers, airfields, etc.

General Aviation Awareness Council

The GAAC have some good educational resources, including a full lesson plan with handouts comparing the wildlife habit of an airfield and a golf course.


Teachers.tv

A website aimed at teachers.  Aims to spark ideas, publish good practice and suport CPD activities.

A couple of good aviation themes videos:

Building Wonders: Concorde

Worth the Visit: Duxford -- using aircraft and hangar construction to teach "Structures"

Maths for Real: Bearings - Second half of the programme focusses on the importance of maths when navigating an aircraft.

In a similar vein, but at university level is:

A collection of video lectures (and supporting notes).  There's some aerospace content in the engineering section with a series on lectures on the systems engineering fo the space shuttle

Teacher Guide

The BMFA has a particularly successful relationship with schools through their model aircraft kits which comes with detailed build instructions and clear teacher guides packed with curriculum links.  This is downloadable from: Teachers Guide


SMARTBoard Resources

Resources for the SMART Interactive Whiteboard.  If you don't have the required software, you can download a viewer here to view the resources on any PC.

Available activities include interactive activities, whole class worksheets, and lesson plans.

Or if a SMARTBoard is out of the price range, how about the low cost WiiMote alternative.  Needs only a normal computer, projector, bluetooth dongle, a standard Wiimote and a small driver piece of software.
